We have all been told for the majority of our lives that we need to brush our teeth twice a day in order to keep them healthy. However, brushing your teeth every time you eat is actually the best way to keep them their healthiest. Brushing your teeth as a routine habit is a fantastic preventive measure in promoting optimal oral health. Flossing daily, eating a healthy and well-balanced diet, and visiting your dentist for regular cleanings and checkups are also preventive measures that go a long way in keeping your teeth healthy and beautiful.
During mealtime, the food that we eat does not all make it to our digestive track right away. Many small food particles are trapped between the teeth and in the grooves of our molars. As these food particles remain in the mouth, they begin to break down into sugars. Because our mouths are very warm and moist, bacteria thrive here and quickly begin attacking the sugars left behind. This breakdown is a necessary, but can be very damaging when left on the teeth. If you do not brush your teeth during the day, you are allowing 12 or more hours to go by with bacteria from your snack(s), lunch, and dinner harbor in your mouth. These bacteria release acids that attack tooth enamel, breaking it down and leading to cavities and gum disease. By simply making it a habit that after you put your fork down you pick up your toothbrush, you can help to ensure that your permanent teeth are kept healthy – permanently.
At Muccioli Dental, we are proud to partner with our patients in order to help them achieve optimal oral health. Brushing goes a long way in promoting healthy teeth and gums. Combining brushing with daily flossing and routine dental visits is the best method of preventing any serious issues in your mouth. Our dental practice is located in Johns Creek, and we welcome the opportunity to serve you and your family.
